As the founder and CEO of BAICE Smart Technology, Xin Shu has deep expertise in the packaging equipment industry and has been closely monitoring how BAICE Smart Technology is responding to digital transformation over the past few years.
He explained to us what this shift means for industrial manufacturers and for production manufacturers like BAICE.
Is Industry 4.0 a mandatory requirement for packaging activities?
For consumer products, this is obvious. Because new manufacturing technologies and the concept of the Internet of Everything can meet the expectations of the digital consumers we have become.
At what time?
I believe that in 10 years, the IoT product line will be considered a standard," said Xin Shu. Until then, we still have a lot of work to do and many barriers to remove. The main one is people, because data collection and connectivity is a concern. As long as industrial manufacturers don't know what Industry 4.0 can do for them, they will be hesitant and worried about security. But things are changing rapidly."
Are there any special needs?
Xin Shu said, "The most important thing is that the intelligent machine delivers extreme performance, minimizes downtime, and provides real-time support to customers."
Its main objectives:
1. implement predictive maintenance: to be able to detect any deviations in the process and predict failures to ensure that a high quality product is produced for as long as possible.
2. Give operators the right information at the right time to help them make the best decisions when problems occur.
In fact, the two issues are linked because the more we use automation and motion control on our machines, the more we can guide the operator. This is a trending development, but it is still hampered by the cost of investment.
Smart machines will also ensure better compliance (machine and process capability) and product traceability, and reduce energy consumption on the production line. All of these needs are fundamental to our industry.
What is the first step?
To make our machines smarter, we first need to incorporate more automation, mechatronics, into a well-thought-out automation architecture," says Xin Shu. For OEMs, it's a cultural change, a technological change, and BAICE Smart Technologies is increasing its resources in automation and mechatronics. This is an important part of our Industry 4.0 strategy, because everything starts with collecting the right data. This automation structure offers the greatest possibilities, flexibility, performance and performance because it allows data to be processed locally, which is essential for us. With this structure, it is also possible to upgrade the functionality of the machines and provide intelligence to the installed machines."
"This win-win approach will help us learn more from the machines we are using, and our algorithms (also known as artificial intelligence) will be easy to install and update locally and connect remotely."
Is all production data stored on cloud servers?
No, it's ridiculous and risky from an ecological point of view, but most importantly, it doesn't do much good," says Xin Shu. With a small data approach, we get better results, and faster. This is done by selecting the data we need to solve a specific problem and processing them at the machine level. This will avoid network congestion and reduce response times. The controller embedded in the motion control system is now a real PC, fully capable of analyzing deviations, detecting abnormal behavior of the drives and even correcting them. Artificial intelligence is not new."
"Of course, if we want to develop comprehensive algorithms for predictive maintenance, we have to use the Internet of Things, which requires our customers to agree to share some data with us. At this point, we also want to work with them to find win-win solutions and collect only useful, sharable data. We are also looking at data storage and how data can be anonymized, encrypted and processed to provide the ultimate in security. We want to ensure the confidentiality of the entire data chain."
How does the BAICE Smart Technology Program help customers?
by focusing on the specific needs of customers," says Xin Shu. Most business leaders are already on the path to Industry 4.0 and have dedicated teams to implement it. Let them integrate our machines into their own architecture to meet their needs and serve the connected factory goals they have identified."
"SMEs prefer advice and comprehensive solutions. We give them some precise suggestions for improvements to start their digital transformation and gain experience before implementing digital solutions on a large scale. "
